Scene 1--A Newly Evolving Scenario

Tom:  (beginning to record unspeakable horrors)   I might be one of the few living humans left to tell this story.  If you’re seeing this it may mean there could be hope left for humanity.   The virus has contaminated over 3/4ths of our planet and most of us have been eaten alive or become zombies ourselves.   I have taken refuge in this abandoned mall.   I can hear the Walkers coming…

(There are hoards of zombies running after him and he is prepared to fight them off if need be)

Tom:  This is not a drill.   But, hell !  You already know that.   Oh, shit…

Die !   Die you brain munching bastards !  (tries to fight them off while fleeing, but one of them bites him and he starts to turn)   That whole quip earlier, disregard that.   I meant no ill will.  I doubt you understand me….Braaaaaiiiiins !

(TV turns to static)

Baylor:  We’re in the thick of it now.   This bunker will only hold so much pressure.   They can smell human flesh.

Greg:  I think we’re all innately aware of that.

Baylor:  (narrating)   Greg and I, Bea Baylor are some of the last doctors standing in this post apocalyptic world.   As far as we know there isn’t a cure for the rampant zombie strain that has all but rendered human beings extinct.

Tessa:  Bea, honey, how long is this quonset hut going to hold ?   The hoard will be here any moment now.

Baylor:  According to my calculations, it should be able to hold for 3 to 5 consecutive barrages.  They’re not excessively strong so maybe longer, but we can’t stay here.   That’s why I had these tunnels installed earlier.    The remainder of resistance is moving through them to ride out the apocalypse.

Kenny:  You mean we just run and hide until the zombies cannibalize each other ?

Baylor:  Yeah, pretty much.

Nessa:  (holding Star)  I wish I was like Star.  She has no idea what’s going on.

Kenny:   Maybe, Nessa, honey but she might understand more than you at this point.

Nessa:  Bea’s the only one who can get us through this.

Bea:  Perhaps, but we haven’t exhausted all of our options yet.

(Star is giggling about everything she sees, totally oblivious of the dangers around her.)

(Fairly soon, the zombies come and they start to fight back.   ‘Family Time During the Zombie Apocalypse’ plays as they do, and unfortunately, Nessa gets bitten…)

(Scene shift)

Scene 2--Calm Even in Crisis Mode

Nessa:   You gotta let me go, guys.   I don’t care if I’m family !    I’ll turn on you and devour you alive !

Greg:  There are other doctors, not far from here.

Nessa:  It’s dangerous !    Leave me….

Tessa:   Absolutely not.   We’re here together and we’re going to work through this as a family unit !   Besides, we all know how to defend ourselves.   (throws a shotgun at Bea, who catches it, oddly enough, left handed.   They all go into battle, fighting their way to the nearest doctor station while the zombies start to flee for the night.)

Nessa:   (noticing that her hand is ‘hurting’ but she takes it bravely)  It’s a pain fighting against these guys.   Only question now is, why did they flee ?   I didn’t think zombies had any fatigue.   It’s like they just gave up.

Kenny:   No, there’s something more to it than that.   I saw something unusual, but maybe it was just my own tiredness making me hallucinate.

Tessa:   No, you’re not hallucinating, Ken.   I noticed it too.    After they bit Nessa, they started backing off.    Nessa, are you alright ?

Nessa:  (notices that her arm that once looked gangrenous is almost completely well)  Um, well, looks like I’m completely fine.

Bea:  That can’t be.   You’re immune !

Nessa:  Oh !  Maybe the doctors can use my blood to mass distribute a serum.

Bea:  You’re brilliant, sis !    Why didn’t I think of that !

Greg:  Kind of hard to do so when we’re doing what we can to survive.   (catches breath) At least for now, we’re not being followed.   We can kind of relax.

Bea:  (narrating)  It seemed as good of a plan as any that we had formulated together.   My sister did indeed have the solution.  Yet, tomorrow, the slews of zombies would come attacking again.   We had to be cautious.   They were repelled by my younger sister but we were sitting ducks.   We had to remain alert even though we were protected and that meant little to no sleep for us, but at least we were closer to finding a solution to our predicament.

(Scene fade)

Scene 3--Serum Making Takes Time

(They stop at a makeshift clinic where Bea’s best friends start an infusion with Nessa’s blood and begin a trial with rats and mice.)

Deepak:  Now to just release these into the wild and see the result.

Ziva:  Like a reverse plague.

Deepak:  Now we wait.

(One by one the zombies are bitten by the rats and it completely wipes out the virus.  Those who have been effected run to find shelter, rations and armaments for protection.)

Ziva:  It worked  !  Nessa, you are incredible !   Way to think on your feet !

Bea:  I couldn’t be prouder to have Grove DNA than at this very moment.   (patting Nessa’s back)

(Star wakes up and is very hungry.   Quickly, as not to lure any zombie remnant their way, Tessa feeds her.)

Tessa:  There, there, little one.   We’re almost out of the woods.  It’ll be alright.   (sings ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’)

Ziva:  Good thing no copyright police are nearby, they’d give you a strike for using that as a lullaby.

Tessa:   Most of those guys were zombified when the virus first broke out.   Lucky us, huh  !

Kenny:  Tessa, Bea, Nessa !   You are not going to believe what’s happening…

Tom:  (coming back to himself)  Ah, Christ  !  (grips head) Where am I ?  (seethes for a moment)  Man, I’ve got a helluva headache.    (looks around, everyone else is voicing the same sentiment and complaint)

Man:  Could you tell me what street this is ?  I seem to have gotten myself lost.

Woman:  Roger, it’s me, Kathleen !

Roger: (rushes up to hug and kiss her)  I’ve been searching everywhere…

Kathleen:  (kisses back, almost voraciously)   We’ll never be separated ever again.   Come on, I know the way back home.

Roger:   What about the zombies ?

Kathleen:  Look around, Rog.   There aren’t any more.

Roger:  (befuddled)   What do you mean by that ?   That’s impossible, lumpkins.

Kathleen:  (Points other people in the same predicament) Isn’t that Samira ?

Roger:  My goodness, you’re right about that.

Bea:   (narrating)   It was just about the biggest family reunion one could ever imagine.   With a bit of civil unrest still gripping the world and fear remaining prevalent, the crutch of guns remained indigenous.    It took a year for us to overlook retaliatory conventions but after learning we were more similar it wasn’t so difficult.    Sure, it may not be a utopia but we have come far after a year’s time.    Greg and I are starting a family and we’re thinking it’ll be a boy.   He’ll be named Eli Kenneth.    Eli was our grandfather.   Fortunately, he passed away long before the outbreak.   Matters have evolved now and society resembles what it should have long ago.   Our boy will live to see this world come to fruition.    As for now, we’ve got to work as a unit and get everything up and running once more, but that is what life truly is all about; friendship, love, camaraderie, laughter, and unity.

(‘Join the Love Train’ plays as everyone works together to get society back on track and we see buildings being refurbished and people resuming a more agrarian lifestyle, learning to live more in concert with nature and relying on each other as well as the fruit of the land.   We see people begin to lead their lives ‘normally’ as can be expected, turning over new leaves in their existence.)
