I have had a couple of ideas for businesses that I am still keeping close to my heart. I don't have a patent and I don't have any guard to someone stealing these from me. I have no network but I consider myself a team player and I enjoy helping and listening to others. I'm not here to talk about my past because I'm certain a few people's eyes would gloss over or think that it was some sort of tragedy. Granted, it hasn't been easy, but I won't give up on my dreams.
The Ideas in Mind
1. Hearts & Hands--I hope no one else is using this as a business title but I want to start a business much like 'Homeboy' in which people receive a second chance. I know that there are technical and skill schools already available through community college but I feel that there could be more 'niche' jobs/services that people could apply to. It would work around people's schedules and it would even give felons a chance to improve themselves. Granted, there would be rules and regulations in place so something like this doesn't actually advance someone who has malintent. My programs are meant to give someone a new lease on life, do something productive, help his community. The main goal is for a positive change to occur within an urban area that wouldn't have access to this sort of education otherwise. I also am aware such things exist in prisons and YouTube, but hear me out. If a prisoner is given an actual skill or ability that they can use and feel good about, don't you think that would give them a sense of accomplishment ? Maybe they never had this sort of reassurance before or someone didn't believe in them. They'll be taught etiquette and social skill as well as basic techniques for interviews. More often than not, people like this aren't even given a second look, but with courses such as these, they will have more than a chance, they will have abilities they can build upon, other people to support them and the ability to become more than they ever dreamed.
2. Sunnyside--I already know things like this exist, but I think people need to be closer to their aging parents. There needs to be more options available then simply leaving a parent at a convalescent home. I know there are organizations like Visiting Angels but these facilities would be closer to the adult children and they wouldn't have to worry about conditions at the home or assisted living. The seniors would have enrichment activities, they would go on trips (within budget) and they would have opportunities to learn even at their age. Some residents would be there for PT, others could be here for rehabilitation. We need to respect the elderly. Give them a chance to tell their stories and save it for posterity. When their stories are gone, that's it. They're nothing more than memories.
I'm hoping I can help others someway even if I have no real background in doing so. Someone out there is going to have more skill and experience and I need help. I'm not below asking for help when I need it, so if these ideas spark your inspiration, please let me know !
