Wedding Bells for El Chavo

Synopsis:  Since I have seen more of the animated version of El Chavo de Ocho, I’m going off my experience and know how of that versus the animated show.  I do have Chilindrina  involved as well as Popis.   Hopefully this won’t get me flamed.

‘Chavo is misunderstood but not by me or you.’--Lyrics from animated theme song

‘What if we rewrite the stars ?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart
You’d be the one I was meant to find
It’s up to you, and it’s up to me
No one can say what we get to be
So why don’t we rewrite the stars
Maybe the world could be ours tonight.’--Lyrics from The Greatest Showman

Chapter 1--Commotion in The Barrio

Everyone was gathered for the biggest event the barrio had seen.  Chavo had gotten the courage to ask Chilindrina to marry him.   Ever since they were small, he knew his feelings for Chili had been very strong.   He didn’t know friendship would evolve into love but it was as natural as breathing, laughing or eating tortas.

Chilindrina had lasik surgery, so she no longer needed glasses.   She had metamorphosed into a stunning, spellbinding swan.   Her brown eyes danced merrily behind her veil.  She still had that laugh that he had plotzed for in his young adult life.   She looked like an angel descending from heaven.   She couldn’t help blushing seeing him at the altar.    From her periphery she swore she could see stodgy, grumpy jerk Don Ramon shedding some happy tears.  Perhaps he wasn’t the ‘monster’ that they had seen and known so well in the past.
It proved that Ramon wasn’t all bad and he did have a sentimental side even though he didn’t let others see it that often.

Chapter 2--How We’ve Grown

All of Chavo’s best buddies were dressed in their best clothing for the jovial occasion.   They had gotten better jobs than what the community could offer and were living comfortably, even enough to take trips wherever they wished.   The one who had done the best was Chavo.  He had more money than all of them combined, but he used it to fuel the community and make it a better place than where he had been abandoned so long ago as an orphan.   He never saw being an orphan as being ‘bad’.   After all, he had the family of the whole community raising him.  All he knew now was his children, once they were born, wouldn’t have to suffer the slings and arrows he had endured when he was young.   He always bounced back no matter the circumstances.  His positivity and can-do attitude had gotten him through many difficult trials and tribulations.   In fact, his comrades could say when matters had gotten tough for them they looked to him for advice.    He was the hero of overcome tragedies.

Quico stood in his tux, eyeing his beautiful wife on the bridesmaids side of the aisle.  Popis was dressed in a delicate rose dress with a ruffled fringe on top and surrounding her shoulders.   She was ethereal and he couldn’t stop staring at her.   She was just as beautiful as the day he had married her.   She was expecting a child and Quico was eager to welcome the little fellow or lady into the world, whichever it would be.   He had to admit that even in pregnancy, Popis had a glow about her that defied nature itself.

All eyes were on Chili as she glided down the aisle.   Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring was being played by a 12 piece orchestra, all friends of Chavo.    Quico had helped chip in a Mariachi band for the reception afterward.   He could barely wait for the free food and cake, but he knew why he had done this to begin with.   He cared for his best friend, the one who had introduced him to Popis when he was just a lad.   Had that never happened, Quico might have been a lonesome, bitter adult but Chavo had always had a charisma and charm about him.  Where Quico had been awkward, Chavo’s gregariousness made everyone feel warm, fuzzy and at ease.   Quico knew he had to thank him during the all-important wedding speech to come.

Chapter 3--The Lavish Ceremony

Chavo actually wrote his own vows, as did Chilindrina.   Even Nono felt his eyes well with happy tears.   The typically grouchy Don Ramon was heard sniffling in the background.   Lucky for him the Witch was nowhere in sight or she would have chased him right out of the chapel.

The priest gave the sermon and let it be known that Chavo and Chili were now husband and wife.   Dipping her into his arms, Chili was given the hottest kiss ever.   Her knees went weak and she sighed contentedly.   He picked her up and carried her across the threshold like a knight of old to the limousine that waited for him in front of the old catholic church.

The limousine was fully furnished.   Nothing was quite so opulent as having as many sandwiches as one could possibly eat all waiting to be devoured.   Chilindrina was amazed.
‘This is the life I wanted for us from the beginning.  We worked hard to get it and now it’s finally paid off.’, he said, kissing her passionately.   She turned red at his passion.
‘You’ll have to quell your amorousness until later, Chavito.’, she said, affectionately.
‘Oh, but I cannot help myself.   I’ve waited so long just to have you all to myself.’, Chavo stated, a bit roguishly.   Luckily, the limo stopped just in time to let them off at the reception and catering building.

The reception hall was decorated in multi colored streamers and illuminated Chinese lanterns.   There were paper cranes for good fortune bedecking the halls and ceilings.
‘Looks like Chili really enjoys Asian culture.’, Nono mentioned.
‘Oh yeah, she definitely does.   I hear she and Chavo are heading to Japan for their honeymoon.’, Popis said, giggling as her baby kicked joyfully in her stomach.   Quico felt a sense of pride and elation looking at his expectant wife, knowing the baby was male.   Quico Junior was a good name, he mused, but if she wanted to name him Arturo after her dad, he wasn’t against it.

Chapter 4--Time For a Speech

Everyone was dancing, eating, drinking and making merry.    All that had come to attend the celebration was enjoying themselves immensely.   Kiko and the Lavender Moon played in the background, followed by well known songs by Julio Iglesias and his son Enrique.   The music was sensational and so were the food and company.

Suddenly, Chavo tinged his champagne glass to call for a speech.   Of course, he thanked everyone for coming but was most grateful for the people who had taken him in when no one else would.   He thanked them for believing in him when the odds had been against him.  He had defeated what looked like insurmountable odds but bounded to the head of the herd.

It was time then for Quico to give his speech of the night.   Quico hated public speaking.  It intimidated and petrified him but seeing Chavo’s glimmering grin and the adoring look on his wife’s lovely face was all he needed to overcome his fear.
‘Many of you know Chavito was the one that introduced me to Popis.   I was awkward and gangly.   I was smooth when it came to pick up lines but usually they’d come out in high pitched squeaks.   Chavo worked his magic on her and my love eventually became my wife of these two wonderful years.   Chili, you are lucky to have him.   May you have many prosperous and happy years ahead of you.  If you’re fortunate like me, you’ll have quite a few babies together.   My son needs a playmate, so you’d better get crackin’ !’, Quico jested.

The evening was filled with dancing and catching up as old friends reminisced.  They waxed poetic about their time in Acapulco.
‘We’ll be wintering there before Arturo is born.’, Quico said, his hubris definitely showing.  Chavo didn’t hold that against him, however.   It was well founded, particularly for a new dad.
‘Hope you have a lot of fun and bring back souvenirs !’, Nono piped up.   He particularly wanted Chavo to bring home exotic sweets to review on his YouTube channel.   Chavo would make certain he delivered.
That evening, something incredible happened.   Dona Florinda was standing underneath the mystic, dazzling light of the disco ball.   Professor Girafales eyed her from a distance lovingly.   It was the moment everyone had waited for; catching the bouquet.   Comedically, Single Ladies was played as the women filed to the floor in a mad dash.
Chili tossed the bouquet and everyone dove for it like the winning play to a American football game.   Florinda caught it, even though it was bent, bedraggled and dilapidated.   Girifaldes wanted to try his fortune with the garter.  As fate would have it, it flew right toward his face and into his hands.   The Dona gave him an all-knowing amorous gaze.   He had avoided her for too long and at long last, he knew what question he should ask her.
‘Not to take away from Chavo’s happiest moment but Dona Florinda…’, he began.
‘Yes, Professor ?’, she answered, in total and complete bliss.
‘Would you be my wife ?’, he questioned.  Dona wrapped her arms around him, stood up slightly on her tiptoes and gave the romantic Professor a deep, earth shaking kiss.
‘Ooo, yes.  I will take that as an affirmative.’, the Professor said, dancing to a traditional Julio Iglesias tango.

Chapter 5--The Honeymoon
Chavo and Chili were spirited away aboard a jet plane to Japan.   It was even more lovely, exotic and exciting than they could’ve ever imagined.
‘If Nono could see all this junk food, he’d freak out !’, Chili said, giggling.    They bought some to take home with them on the trip back.   For Quico, they bought a stunningly decorated fan.   His wife got some onesies and a package that had some baby essentials such as body wash, shampoo, diapers and so on.

Chavo took his first steps out on a white sand beach.  Being in a foreign country was like being in another world.   Luckily for him his Japanese was passable so he knew how to navigate without the help of his interpreter, Hotaru.

Chili looked even more lovely than before in her green bikini.    She was confident, jovial and vibrant.   Chavo couldn’t control the desire he had at that moment.   He swept her up in his arms, spinning her around.   The two came crashing down into the powdery, soft sand, kissing wildly.    He gathered her into his arms and stole her away into their hotel room and they melded into each other as natural as roses blooming in the sunlight.

The following morning, Chili slipped on her clothes and smelled breakfast cooking in the kitchen.
‘Morning, mi corazon.’, he grinned broadly, standing in only a ‘Kiss The Chef’ apron.  Chili laughed as she passed him and gave him a playful swat on the backside.   Chavo served them both with a flourish and flair and kissed Chilindrina on the cheek.
‘I love you so much.  You’re even more beautiful today than you were yesterday.’, he said.   They ate breakfast together and their passion burned in their eyes, so much so that they actually consummated their marriage again in the kitchen.   Thinking that was all they were ever going to do, Chilindrina  held him tight and reminded him there was so much to do and so little time to do it.   It was only 8:00 in the morning so they still had the rest of the day to do with as they pleased.   Deftly taking his hand into hers, Chili walked with her newlywed husband on the ancient beaches of Japan, marveling at the sights.

Chapter 6--Archaic and Modern

It was so fascinating how Japan was a mix of the old and the new.   The lovers enjoyed spas, massage treatments, live kabuki, noh and karaoke.   There were souvenir shops, temples, festivals and parks everywhere they went.   They savored the best sushi and hot pots as well as the finest stores and attractions.    They didn’t have a chance to see everything but they were able to relish seeing wild animals at Japan’s many parks, especially the polite dear and the crazy fox park.   There were bunnies and cats and even a large dog park.   There was even a bird restaurant that the lovers visited before they left.   Chavo had to laugh that a Hyacinth Macaw had made friends with him and a Scarlet had decided to befriend Chili.  It was like being on vacation back home once more.

Before returning to Mexico, the newlyweds bought the proverbial T-shirt and glittery snow globes as well as a quick bite to eat before the long, draining flight back to Mexico.
On the plane ride home, Chavo shared his photos with Chili again, it was as if they were reliving the trip, the avidness and the adventure of the exotic land of the rising son.    Chili became sleepy and rested her weary head on Chavo’s chest.    Chavo ran his fingers through his darling’s hair, feeling blessed that he had her in his life.   What he didn’t know was his quiet life was about to become a whole lot more noisy.

Chapter 7--Little Flora

As Chavo intuited, Chili was pregnant.   The baby to be born was female and Chili was already starting to show signs of being expectant.    Quico was beside himself with happiness because it meant that Popis and Chili would have their babies at around the same time.

After 9 months passed, both Chili and Popis went into labor and had their children.  Quico finally got the chance to hold his son in his arms.  Arturo did resemble him but he had his mother’s breathtaking eyes.   He knew this little kid was going to be quite the playboy when he grew older.   ‘Ay,’, he mused, ‘He’s going to have to be taught how to be a gentleman, but for now, he just needs to be loved.’
Chilindrina had named her daughter Flora after her mother, who predictably enough, spoiled little Flora any time she could.  Chili’s dad, Gregor, was no different.   They adored their grandchild.
‘She is perfect.  I’m glad she’ll have a friend to play with too.  Look how precious they are, just lolling about, thinking only heaven knows what !’, Flora observed.   Chili had to laugh.  Seeing Arturo and Flora try to walk and tumble around was funny.   Even the house cat, Vanilla, got some loving from them but then had her tail pulled and she had quite enough of babies for that particular day.

Epilogue

Flora and Arturo became fast friends and soon began to attend kindergarten with each other.    They were growing up so fast, their parents thought.    Both parents had seen good and bad times together, but most of the period they had spent as a unit had been extraordinary.   The love they shared was fiery, bright and dynamic.   It was a flame that never died.   All events became even more exciting and active.   Quico had two more children, a boy named after him and a daughter named Diana.    Chavo had another girl he named Rosa, since that was his favorite flower.    Watching the little ones grow and thrive made him elated, grateful and eager to see what sort of people they would become.   Each day was new, different and scintillating.   He had always had the family that he had wanted and he couldn’t have been more appreciative.   With Chili by his side, and his friends surrounding him, there wasn’t anything they couldn’t combat as a neighborhood.   Besides, keeping their spirits young and their sense of humor made for delightful lives even when the tempests would try their best to rock them about.
