Chapter 1—Hello, Handsome !
It was
karaoke night at Jinko’s and Mavin Flute had come to wind down after a long day
successfully solving a crime as she always did. Her partner, Gina, looked over her shoulder
and poked her in the ribcage.
‘Isn’t
that Harv ? What’s he doing here ?’,
Gina asked, curiously. The other precinct
detectives, officers and miscellaneous members of law enforcement were there,
like Wyatt, who usually spent his time in the morgue, and Jen, her ‘work mom’.
‘He’s
spending more time with Stella.
Honestly, it warms my heart to see them together. He might be trying to get back into my good
graces. I guess we’re still not totally
over each other yet.’, Mavin admitted.
She noticed that Harv raked a hand through his luxurious blonde hair and
winked at her, causing her to blush heavily.
‘Damn,
he’s still got that rizz. Bartender, I
need some Dutch courage. A round for my
friends, too.’, Mavin said. She got up
on the stage to request Sexfunk by Planet Booty. Mavin was already naturally seductive, but
that song kicked up her enchantment tenfold.
From a
distance, she saw someone that looked incredibly familiar. He was sitting at the bar with his friends
drinking the same whiskey she was savoring and finished only minutes ago. As he turned around, their eyes met, and it
was as if time stopped. She continued
gyrating her hips and finishing the song with a tantalizing flip of her
hair. She knew the other detective had
seen her, but as soon as she was approached, she began to lose her
footing.
Chapter 2—Kicking Back on a Friday Night
The
moment Mavin fell off the stage, Marvin caught her.
‘You
should be more careful, Miss.’, he said, eyeing her almost as if he was undressing
her.
‘I’m
Mavin. My word, it’s like looking into a
hot, sexy mirror.’, she said, unaware her inner thoughts had escaped her
mouth. She blushed, slightly embarrassed.
‘This
is like a dream. I don’t want it to
end. Say, you know Diamond ?’, Marvin
began as he helped Mavin and propped her back upon her feet.
‘The hippest
club in Grimsburg ? Who hasn’t ?’,
Mavin queried. He whispered softly in
her ear.
‘I want
to take you there. Before I do, I’ll do
something unexpected.’, Marvin stated.
It was with that he bought his crew a round of drinks, took Mavin’s hand
and exited the club.
Chapter 3—Strangers in the Night
Each reflection
had found their opposite at Jinko’s, not realizing their bosses had slipped
away to Diamond to go dancing. It was
an incredibly posh locale, seen by only the most elite, but apparently Marvin had
connections there and was allowed free entry.
The two
danced the tango together. Neither of
them thought they could become closer to
a person than they had each other.
Their impulses drove them to find a place under the stars out in the
wilderness away from the club, laughing, teasing each other until they ended up
together, naked, lost in ecstasy.
‘Dear
God. That was absolutely unhinged.’,
Marvin complimented.
‘Agreed.’,
Mavin said. Unusually, she had a box of
light up candy cigarettes. Marvin couldn’t’
help but laugh.
‘That’s
quite the call back, Maves.’, he said, sitting up next to her and grazing her
neck with his lips. She giggled since
his stubble tickled her neck. She was surprised
she felt no guilt in having a one-night stand with him, even if it wasn’t her purview
to do such impulsive things. He ushered
her into ecstasy as they tumbled repeatedly, giving way to incredible
pleasure. Mavin looked at her watch and
realized her crew was going to be worried about her.
‘As exquisite
as this was, Marv, I must go. I hope
you understand.’, she said, leaning forward and softly kissing him. Marvin drank in her softness for a moment
and the two dressed themselves before parting.
He didn’t think this would be the last time he saw her. She lived in Grimsburg, after all. Yet, something told him that Mavin was more
concerned with getting her family back together and continuing to be a stand-up
mother to her daughter, Stella.
Chapter 4—Weirdness
Greg
was the first to notice Marvin returning and he wondered where he had been.
‘Something
came up. I got it taken care of.’, he
reassured them. Harmony had stepped up
on stage and began singing Don’t Stop Believing. She noticed Marvin and shot him a
flirtatious wink. She wasn’t expecting
to see him at Jinko’s, but it was obvious that the two were beginning to fall back
in love with each other. Marvin had
tried being an upstanding dad to Stan.
He was a good kid, there was no doubt about it. She
had good news to tell him. She almost
couldn’t believe it herself, but Stan had made a friend and she happened to be
a girl.
That
night, Marvin was welcomed into his side of the bed. No longer was he confined to the basement.
‘Pay up,
hon ! Stan’s got a new friend.’,
Harmony said, triumphantly.
‘Really
?’, Marvin said, in disbelief, shooting her a dubious, snarky look. He remembered all the gender-swapped
lookalikes, including his own. Then he
no longer doubted her.
‘Is her
name Stella perchance ?’, Marvin asked, intuitively.
‘Seriously,
though. How do you do that ?’,
Harmony asked, clearly impressed with Marvin’s deductive reasoning. Marvin knew that the next thing he said
would be the hardest discussion he and Harmony ever had, but if they wanted to work
together as a family, honesty was the best place to start.
Harmony
admitted that she had been caught in the ‘big trap of handsome’ known as Harvey
Flute.
‘Your
opposite.’, he said, realizing the both of them had been ensnared by their loins
over their logic.
‘Mavin
was the one who helped me see the light.
I know what I’ve been missing, and that’s you and Stan.’, Marvin
admitted. Harmony couldn’t even be
irate. Both of them had made a mistake,
but they had owned up to it and were willing to work through it, together. Even if it took a while to repair what had been
eroded before, the two were just stubborn enough to look beyond all that and
see that their love had never been extinguished.
Chapter 5—We’ll Always Have Diamond
Mavin
made it clear that she only wished to continue being friends with Marvin if
only for the sake of Stella having someone to whom she could relate. She could see many years into the future of
them marrying and becoming one bigger, happier family, but that would have to
wait. Of course, Stan could always
change his mind, but he and Stella were like two peas in a pod. Mr. and Mrs. Flesh were made to be together,
but Ms. Flesh was less of a goader when it came to doing things that Stella
knew were unethical or questionable.
It had
been illuminating for each of them to come together this way, especially after
adjusting to the fact they had new directors.
No one knew what changes lay on the horizon, but at least all of them
knew love would keep them together and their friendship would last
forever.
Epilogue
Harvey
and Mavin remarried. Fairly soon,
Stella stopped seeing Ms. Flesh. She
was still Stan’s best friend even though Stan still saw Mr. Flesh. She had the feeling she’d be spending time
together with him more often and perhaps maybe love was in their future, since
she was the one who caught her own mom’s bouquet. Stan acted all shy and coy, but in his heart,
he had known that from the moment he met Stella, they were met to be
together. He would take it slow and savor
his friendship with her. Communication
was key and the two already had that down to a fine art.
By the
end of the reception, Stan and Stella had said their goodbyes and gone their separate
ways. Stan left with a sense of hope
aflame in his heart, walking betwixt his mom and dad, hands all clasped
together. Indeed, the future was
bright, but he managed to stay focused in the present, not taking a single
moment for granted.
The End
