Suction Cup Man Falls in Love

Synopsis:   A SCM (Suction Cup Man) fanfic in which he becomes a hero, but also falls in love with the woman whose life he ultimately saves.

‘Fuck your shit, I’m going up

You can’t unsuck my suction cups

There’s so much stuff I’ve yet to climb

So, while I rhyme, I climb full time.’—Some lyrics from SCM’s Theme Song

Chapter 1—Lone Wolf

David Anthony Salita, as was his given name at birth, had known the comfort, support and bolstering of both his parents until they died pursuing their passions.    Dave’s mother, Suzette, had died in a terrible ziplining accident.   His adrenaline addicted father, Stephan, died tragically in a malfunctioning ‘slingshot’ type of ride.   He fortunately, had kissed Suzette goodbye before the two died separately of each other.    David was only 18 when this had happened, but he had inherited his parent’s adoration for adventure.    He tended to live on the edge, quite literally, and preferred to be alone rather than in groups of people.   Mostly, David annoyed others but he had become infamous due to his love of spider-like antics, scaling businesses and being a general nuisance.

Chapter 2—A Jump Closer to Death

Liana Bertrand had lost everything she had come to know and love.   One of her supposed friends had betrayed her, framing her for stealing from the company.    It, in fact, had been her best friend, Karen, who had been stealing from her dad’s company for years.   Liana and her dad had been close, and he trusted her more than anyone else in the firm.   With this recent discovery, her dad lost all trust in her and disowned her, as well as fired her the same day.

‘You’re no longer a child of mine.  Don’t come begging for help.   You won’t find any from me.   I should’ve seen it coming months ago.  Heather said you were acting suspicious.’, her dad said.    Liana’s blue eyes drowned in tears.   Her lower lip quivered.   Angrily she clenched her fists, took her stuff, and left.    In a rage of disbelief, confusion, rage, and despair, she fled to the roof and started to walk towards the edge of what would’ve been her company if Karen’s jealousy and undermining hadn’t overturned Liana’s future.

Liana’s strawberry blonde hair fluttered serenely in the wind and sobs shook her body.   Her mother had been gone for years now, dead due to an inoperable brain tumor.   Liana had to grow up quickly taking care of her mom, but she had done so with great humility, gentility, and tenderness.    Her mother became a little child as she wasted away, and now she had lost her dad all due to subterfuge.

‘I have absolutely nothing left.’, Liana mused to herself.   She had cried her eyes dry and shuffled her feet forward, closer to the edge of the high-rise skyscraper.   It looked like a point of light sticking out of the concrete jungle, a diamond in the urban landscape.    She pivoted and faced opposite of the fall she was about to take.   Folding her arms across her body, she whispered, ‘Goodbye, cruel world.’, and began to plummet.

Chapter 3—Angel in Black

When David had seen Liana, he couldn’t help but be compelled but save her.   She was an absolute stunner in her black business dress, fuchsia and white blouse and fuchsia hoop earrings.   She even had a carnelian bracelet, rose quartz, sunstone and one chakra bracelet accenting her cute ears.    She was most certainly an angel in a black dress, looking more regal than anything he had ever seen in his dreams or reality.   He caught her but noticed she had her eyes closed the whole time.   She kept saying,

‘I’m ready, God…’, she whispered.    Thinking that she hit the ground, she opened her eyes and saw David taking off his helmet to reveal the most luscious brown hair she had ever seen.    Waving softly against his face, he glowed a bit from sweat.   From the way the sunlight hit him from behind, he looked like an angel in purple, wearing blue jeans.    She felt her cheeks grow hot.   Any thought of death now escaped her.

‘Are you alright ?   You could’ve died !’, David said, obviously.    She knew from his whiny, nasal tone that he was Suction Cup Man.    She, strangely enough, had been a fan and felt a little awkward confessing her admiration for him.    David found himself blushing.   This was the first time he ever felt deeply for anyone else other than himself.   He didn’t think he had it in him to save someone, let alone love them.    Little by little, though, Liana changed the sphere of influence David had in the world.

Chapter 4—Working Again

David was able to convince Liana’s dad to welcome her back, especially when Liana had found hidden cameras in her dad’s office.   Once she played the surveillance recordings, Karen’s job went out the window.   So far as Karen was concerned, she wasn’t welcome anywhere.   Ties were cut neatly, succinctly, assertively, and no one’s feelings were hurt in the process.

Then, the unimaginable happened.   David had been a lone wolf all his life but meeting this adventurer had given him a whole new perspective.   She adored taking life by the horns and she often did activities that had a slight bit of risk involved.   Although David couldn’t provide for her and a family, per se, he had a side hustle that could help them both.

Chapter 5—I Now Pronounce Thee…

David’s side hustle was, oddly enough, herbal tinctures, fruits, vegetables and spices.   No one else knew this but Liana.   She was especially surprised when he handed her a deep crimson rose out of the blue from his garden.

‘Tell no one.   They’ll think I’m a pussy.’, he said, blushing slightly in her presence.

‘My lips are sealed.’, Liana said, drawing closer to him.   She wrapped her arms around him, tousling his luscious hair and kissed him deeply.

‘Marry me, my little climber.’, he coerced.    There needed to be no further discussion. She was sold on the idea.    From that moment forward, the two solidified their union and in about a month had a lavish wedding.     Many people attended, but Suction Cup’s enemies stayed far away from the event.

Epilogue

It is true that everyone needs love, even bombastic, slightly loony rappelers like David.   Liana and he are still climbing walls together, and someday there may be three suction cuppers in the future.   Whether it is a little baby boy or girl, no one knows for certain.    Liana is terribly excited to be a mom, while David isn’t so certain.    He knows he’s going about this whole relationship thing in the right way and has never been happier.   His heart resounds whenever Liana is near him, but they can be separate and be independent when the situation calls for it.   Whatever the future brings, Mrs. and Mr. Salita are content in knowing they have each other’s back when scaling the lengthy skyscrapers in life.
