Chapter 1—The Past Comes to Life
David
didn’t mind that Roxanne was keeping her original name. Since the wedding, however, Roxy hadn’t had
the time to tell her beloved husband that her soulmate was still lingering
around the Woodstone Manor. She hadn’t
even had the opportunity to email Sam and Jay about her recent marriage. In fact, it had been David that made the
booking to the B&B, curious about his wife’s phenomenal talents.
‘Trevor,
there’s an email here ! Oh, did you know
that your beloved got married not long ago ?’, Nigel asked inquisitively. Trevor wasn’t hurt that his foxy Roxy was
hitched, but he was curious what lucky man would be spending his earthly
life with her. Part of him was a little
on edge in the fact that David seemed like he was in the dark about his wife’s
past.
‘Ooh,
what juicy gossip is going on now ?’, Alberta said, saucily. Hetty read what was on the screen and the
ghosts took one provocative look at Trevor.
In stead of being pleased with his sexual conquest, Trevor was concerned
for Roxanne. He was well aware of how some
people feared what they couldn’t understand, and he felt dread knotting in his
stomach.
‘This
could either go well, or it could spiral downward quickly.’, Pete said, who was
usually the optimist in the group. Coming
from him it didn’t help matters any, but Sam and Jay were waiting, welcoming
their former guests with open arms, knowing that their presence was what kept
the Woodstone Manor popular and the proverbial cash register ringing.
Chapter 2—The Truth Comes to Light
Struck
instantly by the building’s opulence, Roxanne let Jay and Sam tell the story of
the Woodstone. Issac and Nigel found
David fetching and didn’t give two fiddler’s bows if anyone overheard
them. Many of the ghosts thought he was
absolutely ravishing. He wasn’t simply
a handsome face, however. This man was
extremely knowledgeable and found the manor extremely comfortable.
‘I can
see why you love this remarkable place so much, my lamb.’, the businessman said
as he drew her close. She longed to
take him upstairs to the balcony to reveal her last secret to him, slightly
nervous about how he would react. After
all, she had been holding this secret from him for years. It was about time to let the cat out of the
bag.
‘There’s
something I have been meaning to tell you for years. Everything from the moment we met to now has
been a whirlwind.’, Roxanne confessed.
Utterly rapt, David squeezed Roxanne close and admired the view of the
stars that he had missed working in the bustling metropolis.
‘What’s
that ?’, David began. For some odd
reason, she could sense all the ghosts coming to her aid, since she had a bit
of a shiver. She told him the story of
Trevor, and he patted her shoulders.
‘It
doesn’t phase me that you have extra sensory perception. When I met you, I had an inkling you were
unlike any other woman I had ever met.
I never really asked because it seemed you were guarded about it.’,
David said, stroking her hair tenderly.
He kissed her forehead and looked at her affectionately.
‘I was
afraid, David. I thought if the truth
came out, you would ultimately leave me like all my past loves had once they
pried too much or if I saw something or had a prophetic dream. Others would only want lottery money, but
sadly, my talent doesn’t work that way.’, Roxanne said, her sky-blue eyes
growing cloudy.
Chapter 3—Always and Forever
A bit
of a draft had kicked up on the balcony but that was only because the ghosts
didn’t want David and his exceptional bride to freeze. Among them, Trevor watched in admiration at
just how extravagant Roxanne looked.
Although she might have been in her late forties, she didn’t seem to age
whatsoever.
‘I
honestly couldn’t give a tinker’s dam about any of that.’, David stated
conclusively. A full easy sigh of
relief filled Roxy’s breast as she melted into David’s strong chest.
‘You did
say you would be my guy always and forever.’, Roxanne cooed as the two
curled up into each other’s arms as they went to sleep. Tomorrow night was New Year’s Eve, and they
would be celebrating it in style, just as David had always wanted to.
‘I
meant that promise. I keep my word,
lovely.’, David said as he spooned his wife.
‘I’m
tearing up !’, Pete said, his eyes glistening.
‘A
well-deserved happily ever after. I
couldn’t be gladder for her.’, Alberta said, handing her mushy man a tissue,
which he promptly blew his nose on.
Chapter 4—One Last Dance Before Parting
More
people had since booked the Woodstone for new year’s eve, thanks to the affiliation
it had with Roxanne and her trending TikTok reels. She had quite the following although it was
mostly Zoomers, Alphas and Albetas.
‘It
feels so lovely to have these halls filled with people again. I didn’t think we had enough room for
everyone here.’, Hetty gasped.
‘With
the money Roxy was able to fund for us, we’ve been seeing more profit.’, Trevor
said.
‘You
must be beaming for her.’, Sass stated, noticing that his friend was glowing a
bit more than usual.
‘I’m
not simply happy for her, but for all of us.
Sam and Jay deserve this. Of
course, we will never be out of the woods with fads coming and going but even
if we do become obscure and obsolete, we will never run out of curious lodgers.’,
Hetty added.
On a
big screen television, all the guests began to count down, dressed to the nines
with their alcoholic drink of choice.
Many of the were attired in glittery party hats, merrily blowing
noisemakers, dancing as they watched the new electric ball begin its descent in
New York Time’s Square. As the
countdown ended, couples kissed, many shouted ‘HAPPY NEW YEAR’ and Jay and Sam
shared a scorcher of a smooch. Most of
the guests left after calling an Uber or Lyft back home. Others stayed until their buzz wore
off. There were some lingering guests
who waited until tomorrow to head home to avoid nutty drunk drivers or motorists
under the influence. As for Roxanne,
she and David lingered that night to get some much-needed rest before departing
the next day after their continental breakfast.
That
night as Roxanne slept close to her husband, Trevor remembered his instruction
from Sassapis.
‘It
does my heart good to see you found someone worthy of you.’, he said, his eyes
brimming with tender tears. It wasn’t
bitter, but sweeter.
‘You
were the one who made me open up, Trev.
I owe you that much.’, Roxanne confessed. Trevor couldn’t help but blush being so close
to her. Even if they weren’t having their usual romp, he could enjoy one
last dance with her. Extending his
hand, she knew that he wanted to do a bit of a quickstep with her. Even in her subconscious, she was
delightfully light on her feet. To him,
there wasn’t anything that his soulmate couldn’t do in the dream realm.
Chapter 5—Inspired !
When
Roxy left the Woodstone, she couldn’t help but find her muse unable to be silent. She asked David what he felt about starting a
dance studio, which was something she had always wanted to do but had been
spurned at every turn no matter how hard she tried.
‘You’ll
have to hire instructors, Roxanne Lee.
You know how hard that’ll be, given that we have so few connections in
that realm.’, David said, reprovingly. Roxanne
knew that Sam knew of some people that might be able to give her fledgling
business a boost. It was a good idea for
the small community in which she lived.
So many people her age and older didn’t have a dance studio, unless they
wanted to enlist at the local Arthur Murray or Dulaine that was half a mile’s
way into Timbuktu.
‘It
will take time, my cinnamon bun.’, he said, gently, knowing that she felt much
like Hamilton in that she only had a limited time to accomplish everything she
set her heart upon. He had to remind her
that she had only been through one scare and that almost ended her life, but
she was far from done.
‘We’ll
get it finished. It would make a rather magnificent gift for
the community.’, Roxanne admitted.
Epilogue
After months of careful planning,
diligent effort, and unwavering support from David and a few well-connected
friends, Roxanne finally opened the doors to her very own dance studio. Word
spread quickly throughout the community, drawing people of all ages eager to
learn, move, and connect. The studio soon became a vibrant hub for social
gatherings, joy, and personal growth, enriching lives and offering a creative
outlet that had previously been missing in the area.
Local residents found new friendships, improved their
health, and discovered talents they never knew they had. Roxanne's dream not
only revitalized her spirit but also brought lasting happiness and unity to her
town, proving that with perseverance and a loving heart, she could truly make a
difference.
