The Wrath of Red Fang
Synopsis: King Sonic finally battles Red Fang.
Chapter 1—Barely Holding Himself Together
Red Fang
homed in on Sonic’s signature to locate him as an infant when he and his
siblings had been separated. He had
found the precise moment in his timeline where he would be the most vulnerable
to strike him and eliminate the source of his misery forever. However, Fang was not successful in his
attempt since he had been sidelined in the void of time and space.
‘I don’t
know why you have a vendetta against me, but I don’t want to fight unless you
give me no other reason to do so.’, Sonic said, after knocking Fang down only
momentarily. Red Fang was literally
falling apart. His flesh was putrid,
rotting away under the corruption of chaos control. His hollow eyes glowed in the pits of his
skull as he turned his gaze towards Sonic and laughed. His laugh, a hollow, soulless sound of
lunacy.
‘You know
this isn’t how this will end, King Sonic.
I have been watching your progress and I loathe it. Mobius will fall. If not by me then by someone stronger. You might be a beacon, but like the candle
you are, someday you’ll be snuffed out.’, Red Fang said, pulling himself up to
his feet while another hunk of flesh fell to the ground from his face. The stench alone was enough to make Sonic
want to vomit, but he held himself together as the two began to fight.
The battle
seemed to rage between the two factions, light and dark until Sonic caught Red
Fang’s fist and it crumbled in his hand.
Instead of completely disintegrating, Fang laughed maniacally.
‘You can’t
destroy what’s already corrupt, hedgehog.’, the skeletal lunatic cackled.
Chapter 2—Listening to the Medallion
Sonic knew
something worse was coming. He had
remembered something the Oracle had told him when he and his siblings were
seeking refuge with him and his wife.
‘Listen to
the Medallion. There will be times when
it speaks to you. Heed its voice.’, he
recalled the Oracle telling him sagely.
The Medallion had spoken to him before, but it had been so long
ago, he couldn’t help degrading himself into believing that it was coincidental
this had happened. He had to remember
magic was so far beyond himself that he simply had to trust it had his best
interest at heart. White magic was
surrounding him, and the dark, obviously was reforming Red Fang.
Around the
chaos emerald, oscillating and pulsating purple much like the disgusting
heartbeat of an ancient, indestructible evil, Red Fang had become reborn. His body was a mixture of essence and
flesh, something indescribable.
‘There will
be only one victor. I’ve seen how this
ends, hedgehog, and let’s just say, spoiler alert, it isn’t good for you.’, Red
Fang laughed, smirking as he knocked Sonic in the schnoz, back into the endless
void.
Luckily,
there had been nothing to hit, but Sonic had seen stars after being
clocked so hard. He had been close to
death before, but he figured Red Fang was simply toying with him, similarly the
way a predatory cat would with an insignificant mouse.
‘Draw me
out. Only pure diamond can shatter a
corrupt chaos emerald…’, the Medallion said.
He could see a sword fashioned out of pure diamond in his mind’s eye and
knew he had to concentrate. He was
hurtling through the void so quickly he would catch glimpses of other
iterations’ timelines, but he wasn’t distracted. Cautiously, he went within himself and came
to a clear pool, where the diamond sword waited.
Chapter 3—‘As If a Sword Will Save You !’
Quickly,
coming out of a trance before Red Fang collided with him again, Sonic defended
himself with the diamond sword.
'As if a
sword will save you ! There is no
stopping the apocalypse. Accept your
fate, since all of it ends in entropy when all is said and done.’, Red Fang
prophesized.
‘As if I’ll
fall for that.’, Sonic scoffed. The two
squared off until Sonic found and opening and countered, impaling Red Fang
straight through the heart. The sword
was hard enough to shatter the chaos crystal into thousands, maybe even
millions of fragments. Once they broke,
however, they turned into nothing more than sand. In this form, they weren’t going to influence
anyone, even if they were inhaled. There
was a lingering sense of sadness over how corruption could consume someone that
they became the epitome of madness, but Sonic was relieved that the timeline
was safe from another agent of chaos.
He was certain since Timely was still on his wrist that others existed
elsewhere, and even though this was an Atlantean burden he had to bear, it was
likely one of his offspring would come to inherit it at some point. Whatever the case, he was sure that Timely would
choose his next champion and the cycle would begin anew.
Chapter 4—Safe and Sound
Back on
Mobius it was as if nothing happened.
Everyone had seen Sonic wink into nothingness and then reappear. It was a bit perplexing, but Amy and his
family welcomed him back first. She
smothered him in kisses and didn’t hold back.
‘How did you
manage defeating him ?’, she asked, genuinely inquisitive.
‘The
medallion spoke. It told me to ‘go
within’ and I emerged with a diamond sword.
Apparently, it’s the only element strong enough to shatter a chaos
emerald.’, he explained. Sonia and
Manic hadn’t had the same experience that their brother had undergone, but they
had a feeling that the time would come their medallions would guide them
similarly. For now, all of them were
happy and grateful Sonic was back without a scratch.
‘I think we should celebrate, but not until dad’s had a bit
of a rest. Looks like that last fight
took a bit out of you, and you still have the sword.’, Dashiel observed. A fitting weapon for a warrior such as the regent
and sovereign of Mobius, waiting for another opportunity to be wielded.
Epilogue
It wasn’t
only a day of celebration but an entire week that Sonic wasn’t
anticipating, thrown in his honor. The
people of Mobius were exceptionally grateful, although they had only snippets
of what had occurred within the void of space and time. Only Sonic had felt its ravages, but he had
been far stronger than he imagined. His
ultra form had protected him from any rapid aging that might’ve happened
there.
Sonic could
finally kick back and savor a tiny bit of libation with Amy. It wasn’t often he had alcohol, but the
occasion called for it, and he wasn’t one to give in to inebriation, since he
knew his limits.
‘Thank the
Gods we’re finally rid of that awful menace.’, Amy said, while spooning close
to Sonic later in the evening as they rested their eyes after another non-stop
celebration. It seemed excessive, but
Sonic didn’t want to turn away any revelers or support for Mobius herself. Everyone was coming together and found a new breath
of fresh air after the initial victory.
They were all grateful that evil had been defeated yet
again. It was still a mystery why the
watch and sword were still within his own timeline, but Sonic didn’t pretend he
even understood that. That was an
enigma for another day, and his eyes had grown heavy.
‘Goodnight
my darling love. My thornless Rose.’, he
said, affectionately as his nose brushed against hers and he nibbled Amy’s neck
softly to elicit coquettish titters and the occasional sigh of pleasure.
‘Sleep well,
fearless one.’, she said, smooching him softly before curling into Sonic’s
strong embrace to fall into reverie herself.
Tomorrow was another day, but it would indeed be a brighter one, since
soon, Sonic’s eldest would be marrying the woman of his dreams. It had come so fast that a wave of nostalgia
overcame him, and an errant tear escaped him.
Looking above, he thanked his lucky stars and the Gods again, breathed a
deep, fresh breath of air and held Amy close to his heart as he dove into the
realm of dreams for another night.
