Far Out Family Reunion

Synopsis: King Sonic and his family reunite with cousins Monica and Isabella after years of being apart, but there is a special surprise.

Chapter 1—Victory Day Off World

Sonic had been hearing some details about Victory Day being whispered about in the halls and wondering what everyone was being so secretive about.    Many of the celebrations he already knew about.

‘What’s going on ?   Everything is coalescing pleasantly, but why am I still uninformed ?’, he questioned, with some annoyance in his tone.   It wasn’t his prerogative to sound irritated, but when he couldn’t even get Tails to give him details, he knew something was going on.

‘Alright !  I know there’s no keeping secrets from you, beloved.’, Amy chuckled.   She and the others had planned everything to the last detail and Victory Day was already being celebrated everywhere.

‘Well, we’re heading to Asteroid 826, if you must know.’, Sonia said.   Most of the royals had heard of that asteroid in passing, but it had never been brought up terribly much.   What they didn’t know was their long-lost cousins Isabella and Monica had been living up there with their mom, Diana and their dad, Torque.    Torque and Diana owned the Sprout Bar, which was a restaurant and repair shop for all sorts of interstellar crafts, solar sail craft and more.

‘Hopefully more of my questions will be answered there.  I’m ready to get this party under way !’, Sonic said, geared up and ready to boogie down.   He and his family were already dressed for the occasion, hungry for whatever was being served up at the Sprout for Victory Day.

Chapter 2—Asteroid 826

The Solar Star was a sail ship that ran using the power of Mobius’ sun.  It caused no residual waste and was safe, effective, and very rapid in reaching its destination.   In no time, Torque and Diana welcomed the family and siblings.    Isabella was auto hammering a craft back into shipshape and realized she had to make a quick change to meet her guests.

‘Monica, stall them for me as much as you can, I have to go change !’, she said.  Monica rolled her eyes.  This was so typical of Isabella, to get involved with her craft repair that she’d forget about anything else that took precedence.    Other than that, she was always hospitable, kind, generous, warm, and friendly.   She just had more of a head for engineering and mathematics than the bookish Monica.    Monica adjusted her glasses and welcomed the families as well as some other distinguished guests, giving them the tour.   Soon, Isabella joined them and at last, they were introduced to Sonic and the royals.

‘You’re finally here, highness !  Oh, how we’ve longed to meet you !’, she said, with a deep, respectful bow.   Monica was just as eager and did her best to suppress a kawaii squeal of delight, but it was no use.  She was bounding on her feet, euphoric to meet her cousins on their home base.

‘Oh, my, my, my, do we have a lot to catch you up on.’, she said, adjusting her color coordinated glasses again.   She was dressed more femininely than her sister, and the two couldn’t be more different than night and day, but it was obvious they were the best of friends.

‘Do so, please.  My husband has so many questions, and I do as well.’, Amy said, as they were shown all the local hotspots on the massive asteroid, which strangely enough, even had a school that the two sisters attended but were now opting to be home schooled as they advanced into accelerated courses far beyond their years.

Chapter 3—Robotnik’s Reign

'How many of Buttnik's SWATBots were on the asteroid ?', Manic asked. The family was now in a room of the Astrolounge.    The Astrolounge was a walkway between the Excelsiors restaurant and shop and their own castle.   The two were mere Princesses, only engaged to their suitors.    Isabella’s suitor was an armadillo named Austin, who wasn’t royal in his blood, but made much promise for ruling 826’s people.   Monica had a barred owl beau by the name of Magnus, and he was heir to a vast fortune from a mystical planet known as Mim.   He was probably there going about his daily constitutional while Austin was somewhere around 826 playing in the Astrolounge’s arcade and rec room.

'At least twenty or so. Communications were completely cut off. Every channel was destroyed.', Isabella said, her eyes welling with warm tears.

‘We lost so many good 826ians that day.’, Monica added, getting a little verklempt.   Having tissue at the ready, she handed her sister something to dry her eyes while she did so herself.

‘So even though everything else is highly sophisticated, it still took you a while to repair the communication spires.’, Sonia said.   Monica nodded.   She mentioned that Magnus had helped her repair it, with his vast understanding of radios and frequencies.   Before long, the link between them had been fully realized.  Now there was no more worrying or wondering since connection would be instantaneous.

‘I wish we could’ve helped you during the rebellion.’, Monica said, ruefully.

‘You both had your hands full here, so it’s understandable.   We don’t hold it against you, darlings.’, Amy said, sweetly.

Chapter 3—Song and Dance Spectacular

For an asteroid, there were many points of interest and landmarks, but Monica, Isabelle and their parents led them to an arena  that was already bustling with people.

‘Since your defeat of Ragnar and his cronies, we decided to throw you a bit of a Victory bash here.  Think of it as both reunion and party !’, Isabella said, heartily.   There had been a stargate set up by one of the scientists of 826 who was from Mim as well.   Her name was Moonie and she resembled Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy in how she looked.

‘It is my deepest pleasure to welcome Buster Moon and his traveling performers, all the way from Earth !’, Moonie said, and the curtains revealed Buster and his friends, including the ‘retired’ Clay Calloway.

‘No way !   This rocks !’, Manic said, clearly inspired, motivated, and impressed with the Stargate.   The triplets would have to ask more about how it worked after the celebration was over, but for now, everyone on the asteroid was about to have their socks rocked off.

The troupe performed old favorites and new, incredible pieces, filled with gravity defying acrobatics and high-flying stunts.  One even did a cartwheel.   Sonic and his family applauded, wondering who had given Isabella and Monica that particular information about those famous animals from earth, about whom two movies had been filmed.  These questions were held in regard to the tremendous fireworks display, confetti and fanfare as Sonic and his family were ushered to the twins’ Cosmic Castle for a well-deserved dinner and dessert fete.

Chapter 4—Is Everything According to Your Liking ?

The twins asked Sonic, his family and friends if their big bash on 826 met all their standards.

‘I must say, you’ve gone above and beyond what we even imagined.   You didn’t have to go to all this work !’, Sonia said, giving everyone her praise.

‘So, about the Stargate…’, Sonia said.   Isabella knew it was her turn to shine, so she began explaining.   It had been powered down and off after the ‘Sing’ crew had been sent back home without incident.

‘Moonie brought this back with her from Mim as a defense against Buttnick.   Had we been without it, we might stand before you roboticized.’, Diana added.    Torque tenderly placed his hand atop Diana’s shoulder and patted it affectionately.   They had been lucky that Isabella had supporters on Mim and Magnus would do anything to keep her and 826 safe from harms way.

‘You know what I was thinking ?  Since you have a literal pathway to anywhere or anywhen with the Stargate, you could come and visit us on Mobius !’, Sonic stated, hopefully.   Isabella and Monica had always wanted to visit Mobius.  They had always seen it from a distance from the Astrolounge or observing it from the deck of a solarsail, never off asteroid and certainly not close enough to land.

‘It would be a lot easier than taking a rover there.’, Monica noted aloud.    Isabella nodded, concurring.

Chapter 5—Keeping In Touch

As the dinner continued into the night, the family was filled with jubilation and gratefulness over everyone’s shared victory over Ragnar.    Sonic then remembered he had communication devices to give to the Escalitos.

‘We may need you in the future, so hold on to these.’, he said, handing them all a holowatch.   It was fashionable and convenient.   Not to mention, it was incredibly resilient, so it could take a licking and ‘keep on ticking’ as the old expression surrounding analog watches used to go.

‘It’s such a pity that you have to go back.’, Diana said, realizing that she was keeping the King from his royal duties.

‘Such is the life of royals.’, Dashiel said, shrugging with a huge smile.  He couldn’t get over the fact that he actually had cousins, and like his dad, they were actually pretty cool.

Chapter 6—A Much Needed Rest

After embracing for the last time, Sonic, his family, and friends requested that they be sent home via the Stargate, and the Escalitos were extremely happy to oblige.

No sooner had they walked through the powder blue glow of the divide than the whole group found themselves home.   They heard everyone on 826 say farewell for the evening and the mirror to their asteroid was now gone.

‘That’s absolutely surreal.’, Amethystia said, in a reverent whisper.

Epilogue

All of the solar lights that turned on immediately after dusk illuminated everything, including the walls and crystal masonry in the Castle.   It felt like a breath of pure, fresh air to be back home, back where all of them could finally kick their feet up and relax, since after the celebratory atmosphere had dissipated, everyone needed to catch up on their rest.

King Sonic yawned, stretched, and looked out over the balcony with Amy by his side.  Their arms were entwined.

‘That really was quite enthralling wasn’t it !  You couldn’t tell me I’d be stepping through a Stargate in a billion years, I never would’ve anticipated it !’, he chuckled, yawning again.

‘I doubt that will be our last voyage through one.  Something tells me we’re going to need that Mimian technology someday.’, Amy stated.

‘Precognition ?’, Sonic questioned, raising an eyebrow quizzically.

‘No, more like maintaining vigilance.   Everything is safer here, and all for the better.   Mobius is at peace, and we’ve even got more to explore beyond 826.   That’s one of 826 in that asteroid field alone.   Beyond that, space is infinite.  Imagine, Sonic, just where we’ll be, or where our children are headed !’, she stated, effervescently.   That was Amy, the constant opportune optimist, forging ahead with the careful, precise backing of science.

‘It’s dizzying to even consider, but all I can think about now is resting.  We both need it after our lengthy celebration.  Come on, let’s head to bed.’, Sonic said.   Amy couldn’t stop a yawn from overtaking her and giggled when Sonic scooped her into his strong arms and carried her to bed.    The two both went out like lights the soonest their heads hit their soft pillows.    No one really knew what adventures lay ahead, but their opportunities certainly were vaster than the cosmos that surrounded them above.
