The Little Mermaid Musical

I have always been a Disney nerd.   I have seen Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins all on stage.  I watched Aladdin on YouTube, saw it in the theatre recently and not too long ago, thrilled to the darkest version of Hunchback of Notre Dame, which is also available to watch from YouTube.   Little Mermaid follows the Disney story but there is a bit of a twist.   Ursula is Ariel's aunt, which I thought was a nice little detail the animated version never had.   It explains Ursula's ambitions more than anything else.   The music was excellent, the costumes were beautiful and the cast was stupendous.   Everyone was perfect for their role, even Flounder, who was absolutely cuter than a bug's ear !   Flounder, Flotsam and Jetsam came in on Heelies, which was a cool innovative way to introduce these characters.   Skuttle had a tap chorus scene: Posituvity, which was fantastic.  His character really reminds me of SpongeBob.   I don't know if that was intentional but if they meant to make that parallel, they did it.  Also, there's a reference to Beauty and the Beast's 'grey stuff', as well as a really great 4th wall break provided by Flounder.    I would highly recommend it, particularly for 'Part of Your World' and 'Under the Sea' which was one of the best parts.  'Les Poissons' was particularly dark, morbid and hysterical.    Five stars, two thumbs up !   If you're a fan, I highly HIGHLY recommend this because it is marvelous but the tethered act in 'Under the Sea' will astonish and amaze you !
