A Lovely Shade of Blue
Synopsis: In the
original run of Freakazoid, we were initially promised a second season, but
sadly, that never came to pass. In this
story, Stephanie/Freakazette gets her own origin, and, we get something we
initially wanted to see between Dexter and Steph, a big wedding ceremony!
Chapter 1—An Ordinary Late Night
Stephanie
Swanson found herself working diligently through the night to get her term
paper proofread and perfect to enter Harvard or Yale. She figured she’d pretty much be a shoo in
given her perfect attendance, spectacular grades and hard work ethic. She had gotten plenty of scholarships and
had been elected as the valedictorian speaker for this year’s graduating
class. Being in front of others and
giving speeches hadn’t been her favorite thing to do, but she was delighted
that all of her hard work and dedication was going to be validated and she’d be
sending out her graduating class in grand fashion.
After
downing another Mountain Dew, Steph got to pull together her speech for one
final readthrough. Just then, her power
had gone out and the internet was down.
All she needed was one more reference to make her paper splendid. Grumbling, she went out to her garage and
saw that a fuse had to be replaced. She
used a flashlight she had taken from the kitchen and started looking for the
box full of fuses and replaced it, only to get hit with a surge herself.
It had
been enough of a jolt to knock her off her feet, but not knock her entirely
out. When she opened her eyes, it
wasn’t Steph that looked back at her, but Freakazette.
‘Ooh,
how very fetching. This outfit is totes
adorbs !’, she thought to herself.
With the paper nearly done, she added the finishing touches and felt the
urge to surf the internet. Perhaps, she
mused, one Dexter Douglas would’ve freaked out and was surfing the web. It just so happened that the two collided
and started to get to know each other. At
this juncture in their relationship, nothing was off limits and they were open
and honest. After all, they had fallen
in love with one another over a long period of time, so their alter egos
meeting was dramatically new and different to them both.
‘Lemme
guess, surge of electricity and now you find yourself in a new, lovely shade of
blue. Which I must admit, really
captures those pretty eyes of yours.’, Freakazoid said, poetically. Out of the code of the internet at a café
unoriginally titled ‘café’, he prestidigitated a rose. In the ‘Net, he could do anything he wished
with the code because the code understood him, and he was basically made from
the same stuff it was.
‘Yep
! Being super though sure feels swell
! I can’t imagine a more freeing feeling
! I’d like to fight bad guys by your
side. I always had been in the shadows
too long, the typical damsel in distress.’, Freakazette lamented slightly. Freakazoid was still admiring her catsuit
and her Goku-inspired super Saiyan hair, complete with lightning bolt
highlight.
‘You
were anything but. To be honest, two
heads are better than one. If we’re
together, there’s nothing we can’t do.
I’m glad you weren’t frightened by your transformation. I wasn’t either, but then again, if I were
honest, I wanted to be super.’, Freakazoid confessed. After the café, the two walked alongside
the Champs de’lessiez and admired the lights.
Freakazette was starting to tire quite a bit.
‘I must
return home. I already know the way to
do so. Oh, freak out !’, Freakazette
said, before Freakazoid could ask her the most important question of his
life. He sighed and looked up at the
phony moon hanging in the Parisian sky.
‘You
had your chance, and you BLEW it, Douglas.’, he condemned himself. ‘Freak out.’, he stated, sadly, returning
to himself in his bedroom.
Chapter 2—Pomp and Circumstance
The speech
Steph gave was rousing, enthusiastic and motivational. She easily got all scholarships she had ever
wanted and had to look over her collegiate letters to see which University
suited her focus the best. She knew she
would go far in life, but honestly, she wondered if she could balance academia
with her love for Dexter and where their relationship would head in the next
four years and beyond.
During
the reception, Steph was looking positively gorgeous all dolled up for friends
to gush over her new look and her spellbinding hairdo. Getting her to herself had been a challenge,
but Dexter managed to distract the ladies’ eyes on the jocks showing off with
their athletic friends.
‘So, I
was just wondering…’, Dexter began.
‘Yeah,
what were you wondering in that big beautiful brain of yours, Dexter Douglas
?’, Steph asked.
‘We’ve
been a couple for so long, and you’re going off to Harvard. I’m headed to Yale. I hope that doesn’t sour things between us.’,
Dexter retorted. Steph laughed.
‘Rivalry
will keep the spark even brighter between us.
There’s something more to this though, isn’t there ?’, Steph said, a
deep, probing gaze into Dexter’s chocolate eyes said everything. It had been this very look that made his
legs feel like gelatin.
‘Yes. I know it’s a long time that we’ve been together,
and I can think of no one else I’d want to grow old with.’, Dexter said. Dexter didn’t have any money for an
expensive diamond ring, but he did give her a promise ring he had set
his eyes on.
‘You
don’t have to answer me until after Yale and we both graduate Magna Cum
Laude…’, he said holding her hands together close to his heart.
‘You
already know my answer. We’ll plan on
something after Harvard and Yale. I
promise.’, Steph said. Just then, she
pulled Dexter close for a hot smooch that left him nearly melted on the grass
beneath him.
Chapter 2—Together Forever
Just
like a slingshot, Dexter found himself at the altar, palms sweaty, tongue
sticking to the roof of his mouth.
Fortunately, Cosgrove had plenty of water available to keep him
hydrated.
‘Dex,
you feelin’ ok, son ?’, Cosgrove asked, genuinely concerned for the health of
his young friend.
‘I’m
just bugging out. You see, Steph is
just the coolest. No diggity, no
doubt.’, Dexter said, romantically.
‘Well,
don’t overthink this. You both made a
promise to each other, and obviously, you saw to making your dreams
reality. Go after them. I’m proud of you both.’, Cosgrove said,
dabbing joyous tears away from his eyes.
Jesu,
Joy of Man’s Desiring was played by the organist as Stephanie Swanson
promenaded down the aisle. There were
audible gasps as she joined hands with Dexter.
Dexter’s sweatiness receded and he gazed, totally smitten, at his wife
to be. In her gossamer gown, she was ethereal,
looking like she stepped straight out of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. As cheesy and catchy as that movie was, it
was one of their favorites, but Steph was even more beautiful than Sarah had
been in the spectacularly romantic and memorable waltz scene with Jareth.
The
wedding was a veritable ‘who’s who’ of super hero greats. Lord Bravery was there with his wife and
children, Steph’s family had come to support her and Dexter’s family found themselves
palling it up with Stephanie’s branch.
Everyone was having a splendid time, laughing, gnoshing delectable food
and reminiscing of time gone by.
Dexter
and Steph danced to their first slow song.
Steph’s head rested against Dexter’s heart. She could hear the palpitations increase as
she held him close. By the end of the
song, his courage overtook him and he kissed her, long, deep and
passionately.
‘There
will be plenty of those in the days to come, my darling.’, Dexter
promised. He couldn’t keep his hands
off of her and he felt his libido slowly rising.
‘I know
you’re feeling that urge to merge. Don’t
worry, there will be plenty of time for that too.’, Stephanie said, wriggling
her eyebrows playfully. Both of them
agreed that their flight to the Caribbean and their hotel stay couldn’t come
soon enough.
Chapter 3—Tropical Rumble
Everything
in the Caribbean had been even more vibrant than the two could’ve imagined. They had slept on the flight down to the islands,
but once they had found their room, there was no dawdling.
Dexter
voraciously kissed Stephanie’s neck from the tip of her jawline to her nape,
causing her to sigh.
‘Down,
boy ! Slow and steady wins the race.’,
she said, playfully. She unbuttoned
her stunning shimmering gown to reveal a lacy teddy underneath.
‘Hummna,
hummna, humma, hummna…’, Dexter nearly drooled, feeling a bit of Freakazoid
make a guest appearance. They both
knew their secret identities. Whenever
they wanted, they could switch over, but right now, in the throes of explosive
passion, they wanted to be completely present.
Dexter’s
fingers did the walking as he deftly pinned her against the wall.
‘Ooh, yeah…Take
me Douglas !’, she begged.
‘Don’t
mind if I do…we’ll send each other into orbit.’, he said as he unzipped her
teddy and revealed her gorgeous naked body.
Of course, Dexter had seen naked women before in movies, but never one
in reality. He felt something primal
kicking in, and his body knew exactly what to do next.
Throughout
the night, the lovers tussled all over the hotel, making love in every room
that they could. They ended in the bed,
both of them orgasming at different times.
Neither one felt guilty. Those tender
pleas of pleasure only turned them on more.
However, it was the middle of the night and the lovebirds were completely
depleted.
‘I
truly do love you, Stephanie Anne.’, Dexter said, savoring the warmth of his
newlywed wife’s frame against his. Their
hands fit so incredibly well one into the other that they kept them clasped
together throughout the night until the sun came up.
Chapter 4—Little Freaks
The
getaway in the Caribbean had brought out Dexter’s inner pirate. The two had visited historical grounds known
for their use by privateers as well as those who resided down deep in the
fathoms of Davy Jones’ locker. They
enjoyed shows, museums, snorkeling, jet skiing, surfing, flying over an active
volcano and lounging on the beach as well as collecting sea shells. The two had taken photos of everything
meaningful they had shared during their vacation, but before they could blink,
they had to return home and start navigating the adult world.
Steph
and Dex found themselves pregnant with twins, fraternal ones. They named the boy Luke and the girl
Leia. It simply made sense and they
hoped that Stephen Spielberg, their friend and producer, wouldn’t get sore that
their babies weren’t named Elliot and Gertie.
Although Stephanie and Dexter’s love life was still pretty red hot, they
found themselves taking upon parental duties and their priorities began to
shift. Of course, they still saved the
world through their superhero guises and no one else knew their secret identities
but themselves. It was even funnier
that Luke and Leia had their own abilities, but simply weren’t old
enough to know how to use them.
Knowing that Cosgrove had access to all kinds of training equipment, he made
it possible for the twins to train once they developed finer motor skills. Someday they would become indomitable
heroes, but for now, they were adorable little tykes that everyone simply loved
dearly.
Epilogue
Freakazoid
did get a retooling, but it wasn’t a remake, it was a reboot that stuck
to the source material. It was so much better
than what Teen Titans Go had tried to do with Freakazoid’s character. Freakazette had always been a ‘one off’, but
she was given a whole extra 8 seasons until the little ones were introduced as
Frick and Frack. Both were ethical
hackers with their own set of skills and had learned well from their parents’ guidance. The two precocious youths would definitely
go far, but for the time being, they loved learning, travel and the recent resurgence
of their cult classic show. It had even
been big enough to inspire a film, which only made them more popular. After a while, the media turned to the next
popular young star but the Freakazoid and Friends Show as well as the
movie A Lovely Shade of Blue remained classics that were beloved by fans
and connoisseurs alike.
