Diego and Luna

Synopsis:  A modern day faery tale of two kingdoms--One of the day and the other of the night.   The two opposites find themselves in love, woefully against their parents’ wishes, however the two get their parents to see they have more in common and the kingdoms are united.

Chapter 1--Reigning the Day

Hey !  My name’s Diego !   It’s a pleasure to meet you.   You might ask ‘why such a sunny disposition ?’.  I have always been this way, even when I was just a tyke.   I rule over a world of light and what would generally be considered the creatures that reside in it.   I am next in line to rule in my kingdom but honestly never really thought too much about every responsibility tied to the burden of ruling a whole kingdom.    It is quite massive and is quite the undertaking for one man to spearhead on his own, but mom and dad have decided to set me on a date with the woman I will soon come to marry.    Sunny seems like a nice enough woman but she nor I have any chemistry together.    We bore quickly when we’re in the same room and I’ve been on plenty of dates with her.   I would never think of her as my wife.   We’re only friends and we get along due to the formalities of how our kingdoms interact.    However, there is another woman I have been seeing whom I cannot get out of my mind.   Her name is Luna.

Chapter 2--Princess of Darkness

Luna is an adorable goth girl with a brilliant smile that lights up the night.   In her kingdom, she rules over the critters of the night and darkness, of course.   Some of these entities are scary but they never mean anyone any harm.    There is a separate entity from Luna that only delves into necromancy and evil but she thwarts him at every turn.   His name is Umal and he is more to be pitied than he is to be feared.    I don’t see why he hates Luna so much but she always fends off her territory.   What irks me is that people think Umal is in league with Luna but she is nothing but benevolent.
I often have to sneak out of the Dias estate just to rendezvous with my blue-haired cutie.  I often meet her in the cover of darkness.   Our love was indestructible and an undeniable force.  One day we hoped to marry even if our parents were diametrically opposed to it.   One way or another, we had vowed that we would be together.   Prayerfully, it was our wish to make our hard-nosed, traditional, close-minded parents see just how alike our realms were.   We knew, however, that would take time.   In the meantime, we did our utmost to avoid any conflict between our kingdoms.

Chapter 3--A Near Battle

It was another arranged meeting with Sunny in the park, predestined by dear old mom and dad.   I was extremely bored and Sunny leaned over, patted my hand and whispered,
‘I know about your relationship with Luna.  I have been dating someone from the Night Kingdom myself.   His name is Shade, and as his name applies, he is cool, laid back, and suave.  I think we’re both a bit rebellious.’, Sunny said with a quirky wink and broad glistening smile.   She swept back her flaxen hair, which had been blowing in the gentle spring breeze.
‘Then you must go and be with Shade.   Follow your heart.’, I said.   Not long after I had done that mom and dad rang me on my mobile.
‘How are things going with Sunny ?’, mom queried.
‘She’s gone to be with Shade.   Mother, I can hide this no longer.   Sunny is a fine young woman but she deserves to follow her heart.   Neither one of us are right for one another.  I too have been seeing a Princess of the Night.   Please forgive me.’, I said.   I heard an ungodly shriek emanated from my mother’s mouth, sounding much like something one would hear on Mischief Night.
‘Son, this is ill advised.  Fraternizing with an enemy kingdom goes against every rule our realm has lived by for countless eons.’, my austere and sometimes severe father warned me.  In order to put a stop to my outings with Luna, mom and dad had gathered together a battalion to start storming the Night Kingdom.   Livid, I confronted them, even though I was just one man against thousands of other men and women, AK-47s pointed directly at me.
‘I will not relent.   You won’t attack my only love. ‘, I said, standing between Dias territory and that of the Selenes.    The battalion stood down.
‘Go.   Do what you must but once you’re out of our protection it won’t be our fault if you die somewhere in between Selenes and Dias territory.’, the main guard, Ruben warned.

Chapter 4--Stealing the Airwaves

I joined Luna in a passionate hug and grasped her face close to mind.   Winding my tongue deftly with hers, I granted her a kiss that momentarily stole her breath.
‘Woah, I suppose I can say I have missed you too.’, Luna said with a merry giggle emanating out of her lips.   She had a brilliant idea.   There was no telling how long the battalion would remain static.  If they got the decree from dad to move forward and attack Selenes territory, they would.   For now, Luna took me to a shack not too far from the estate.   It was shrouded by forest and no one, save her, knew it existed.
‘I have been working with radio waves for a while in my spare time.  If we can petition everyone in the kingdoms, perhaps we can make them realize just how alike we really are.’, Luna said.   I was eager to see this strategy in action.

Luna worked rapidly once she had used her master key to unlock the door on the old, wooden, somehow rather charming and earthy shack.   Quickly, she began flipping switches and tuning into different frequencies.   We were soon able to reach everyone, even those seemingly out of range.
‘Now we head back home.’, Luna stated, unafraid and unshaken.  I was astonished at her resolve.
‘Back into possible danger ?   There may be a war going on, Luna !’, I warned the love of my life.  Although, if we did lose our lives today at least we would die together.   Trusting in my darling’s leadership and the protection of a higher being surrounding us, we ran back into the middle of our territories and held our hands up high as a testament to our devotion.

Chapter 5--Our Courage is Rewarded
Both of our parents stopped any potential fighting and called us forward.
‘These two have done the single most courageous thing I have ever witnessed.   Both of these individuals have stood for something they believe in, and who am I to deny them from wanting to be together ?   After all, wouldn’t it do us good if we actually worked together than being at loggerheads constantly ?’, my father asked.   I never suspected my pop would be the sentimental type but he had given his vocal permission for us to get married at last.   We had been seeing each other steadily for 3 ½ years.    I had been keeping my ring in a secret place.  At long last I was able to put a dragon diamond on my sweetie’s ring finger.    It would take us another year to finally make our union complete but we knew it had been worth all the tumult, turmoil and sacrifice just to have our lives bonded eternally.

Epilogue
I suppose you’re wondering what became of us after the nuptial celebration ?   Well, allow me to elucidate.   We went on holiday to a beach out of our country in a foreign land called Heem.   It’s a tourist joint but we traveled during the fall months, when it is the least frequented.   We enjoyed the sights and each other.   As luck would have it, we became pregnant with twins; Nocturne and Ray.    They are growing up like weeds.  Unlike us, they will never know a division between our kingdoms.   Most people get along peaceably.   There are still some citizens who don’t like each other but for the most part we are pacifistic and benevolent.    People often come from outer realms to visit us and become inspired by our romance and enduring testament to love.   To this day, our children are ambassadors of what a life of openness can look like.   We are flattered we have this reputation even presently and hope to keep the beacons burning bright as long as we can.    Love is the only pure constant in this world and I only pray it can continue blazing brightly for all to see.
