Chapter 1—The Blurring of Spacetime

The Shatterverse crystal had been put back together, piece by piece, each shard holding together its own universe.   Nothing had gone awry, save for the fact that Sonic and his friends in Green Hill were facing down a remarkably familiar enemy that simply would not give up, no matter how many times they lost their battle against them.

‘A mech ?  How unoriginal.’, Sonic scoffed as he and the others faced off against the Chaos Council, each member had their own body part to command of the Giga Smasher.

The Giga Smasher wasn’t a new idea, either.  Eggman hadn’t perfected it, but with the help of Doctor Don’t, he had been able to iron out any possible kinks the machine had popping up initially.

‘This will be your doom, hedgehog !’, the overzealous villain vowed.  He had come back using crystal energy.   The whole crew had traveled into a universe where they had shrunken the entire shard and were using its immense power to run the Giga and it was certainly formidable.    What they weren’t suspecting was another villain to team up with them and turn everything sideways, involving others who wanted nothing more than to savor the Hallowed holiday that was occurring next week.

Chapter 2—Deidre’s Vendetta

Snively’s daughter, Diedre, had felt anguish over the death of her beloved father.  She would’ve risen up after him had she been able to gather the pieces of his empire and continue long after him, but it had taken her a decade to do so.   She was fiercely intelligent and innovative.   She was an opportunist, and she could think of nothing of striking Sonic and his entire family down.   She had invented a way to travel into the past and implement her father’s and Robotnik’s knowledge of crystals to find some sinisterly ingenious minds to help her carry forth her revenge, which in her understanding was a dish best served cold.

They will ALL suffer. I guarantee they WILL !', she said.

She started laying out her plan very carefully.   Deidre found herself literally bumping into the Giga Smasher in her present time, drawing foes alongside her.

Chapter 3—Outnumbered but Unable to Flee

In the warp, Deidre tugged along another soul that was seemingly lost to time and unknown to the present day Mobian Sonic.   She was known as Belle the Tinkerer.   Her father had been Robotnik before a virus had corrupted him.    The origin of the virus was a mystery.  Initially when they had been reunited, he had forgotten even fabricating her, but she couldn’t support what Robotnik was doing or whom he had become.

She oddly recognized Snively’s daughter but knew immediately, she was on the opposing side.   She was aware that the ominous throbbing energy around her was a time warp, forcing her into a realm that she had never seen or was intimate with.

Clang !    Belle hit the ground quite hard but being made of wood and metal made it challenging to break her.   The mech and the Chaos Council gathered themselves while Diedre explained her sad sob story to them.   Being Robotniks from other dimensions, they quickly enlisted to help her, but they soon found they were surrounded by heroes on all sides.

Doctor Babble swore up and down, making Doctor Don’t gasp.

‘Sheesh, Babble !  Who taught you to talk like that?’, he stated, aghast.

‘We’re just as flummoxed as everyone else.   I say less talking, more smashing.’, Eggman suggested.    Deidre powered herself up, reinforcing her sinister dark power.   The ancient, cursed crystal was working its wonders on her, but unfortunately, it was corrupting her and causing her to rot from the inside out.

‘Ah well, if one must go down being corrupted, then I know I will have tried avenging my father’s death honorably.’, Deidre thought while a plethora of heroes surrounded her, defending their homeworld.

Chapter 4—One for the History Books

It seemed to be a normal day to Green Hill Zone Sonic, who fought alongside the Mobian version of himself.    It seemed that he was the only other iteration who had been dragged along into this battle.    Despite the corroding nature of the crystal, Deidre fought them tooth and nail, and she and the Chaos Council were ultimately defeated.

‘I suppose the Shatterverse will have a reign of peace and prosperity thanks to King Sonic and his court.    There was a moment where I felt like it wasn’t going to be possible.’, Green Hill Sonic admitted.    He hadn’t lived with oppression or subjugation.   Granted, it was possible that evil still existed somewhere in that realm that he ultimately had to be sent back to, him and the other versions of Knuckles, Tails and the entire gang that had been sucked into the dark vortex into Mobius.

‘For a moment, dad I was worried Deidre had the upper hand and I had to do something.   I’ve never…killed another being before.’, Dashiel shuddered.  Amy, Iridessa, and Sonic all held him close, soothing him as he wept during their nemesis’ funeral.

The entire Robotnik syndicate was gone, erased forever.   The crystal had completely broken and blown away as magenta-purple dust in the wind.   Even if it were absorbed by someone or something, in that concentrated of a format, it would never seep into another living object to twist and taint it.

There had been something left inside the Giga Smasher.   It was smoldering but still intact.    It was the tome that Deidre had used to gain her necromancy.    Careful so not to touch the book, an ancient archeologist and librarian, an Okapi named Dakari donned nitrile gloves to retrieve it so he and his fellow historians could be studied safely and kept far from those who would ever use it for sinister purposes ever again.

Chapter 5—Belle Finds a New Home

Belle the Tinkerer didn’t exactly have a ‘home’ to which she could return. She had been left in an in-between place called the void and hadn’t seen anyone until the battle had begun.   She had dwelled in a pocket universe with the company of her own thoughts, so being around others gave her purpose again.

The battle had been brutal.   She had never seen so much carnage before, but she had made certain that Mobius had been victorious.

‘Belle, are you alright ?  I know this is a lot to take in after everything you’ve witnessed.’, Amy said, gently approaching the robot.    For the first time, Belle had a sense of calm and resolve.   She felt a massive burden removed from her shoulders for the last time.  She didn’t have to live with the cloud of depression lingering about her any longer.   Of course, much like Dashiel, she would need substantial therapy, but like him, she would heal and recover from everything she had seen and participated in.

‘We were thinking you’d make an excellent addition to our mechanics team.’, Tails offered.   There was nothing that Belle couldn’t fix and having at present no employment, she jumped at the chance to make herself useful.    Instead of floating in infinite space, talking to herself, she would have new friends, a job where she could make use of her talents, and people who would love and care for her.  It was everything that she could ever have wanted.

Chapter 6—A Fond Farewell

One by one, the Green Hill gang prepared themselves to be sent back home thanks to Tails and Rotor.   A few other scientists were at the teleporters, waiting to see them phase out of Mobius.

‘Hey, Sonic !’, Green Hill Sonic called after his double.

‘Yeah, ‘sup ?’, Sonic queried.    He and Amy strolled up to their comrade in arms and noticed he was a bit reticent about leaving.

‘All of us just want to thank you for being so hospitable.   I know it probably would’ve been easier for you to find a hotel for us, but you didn’t do that.’, he said, gratefully.

‘You helped finally defeat the Chaos Council.   That in itself wasn’t an easy task.’, Dashiel chimed in.   Green Hill Sonic clapped his hand upon the young hedgehog’s shoulder.

‘You’re gonna make a mighty fine king one day.   Your dad must be so proud of having such an incredible prince in his family.’, the alternate universe hero commented.   Dashiel’s face turned red at the remark and Iridessa nudged him as if to say, ‘See, I told ya, hon !’

After saying their final farewells, none of them knew if they would team up again, but at least across multiverses email still worked.   Even the picture phone that Green Hill Tails had been inspired to make would help the duplicates stay in touch.

There was a brief countdown, but everyone had come to say farewell to the duplicates.   It had been a long couple of days to mourn lives lost and to see Sonic and his friends off.   At least on the Mobian side, no lives had been lost.

Epilogue

Before long, Dashiel felt less guilty for having taken a life.   He had saved his father’s life from certain death.    He knew that one day, he and Iridessa would be ruling Mobius with their family.   Currently, they were only figureheads, so they did have some agency over Mobian life, but when Sonic passed on, the right of succession would be his.   Luckily, that wouldn’t happen for many more years down the line.   The wisdom he had gotten would serve him well and life would continue along its merry way.

There wasn’t any telling what tomorrow would bring, but whatever obstacles fate threw in their pathway, Sonic and his court were more than prepared for it.   They had weaponry, mechs, intellect and even sorcery on their side if needed.   Whatever occurred, they would face it together as they had so many countless times before.
